Case study: Acoustic design of Dorset Police Headquarters
- Client: Willmott Dixon
- Location: Dorset Police Headquarters, Winfrith, Dorchester
- Scope: Comprehensive acoustic strategy development to meet BREEAM 2018 ‘Very Good’ standards.
Project Overview
ACT Acoustics worked closely with Willmott Dixon and the architects Corstorphine & Wright to create a state-of-the-art new police station for Dorset Police Headquarters.
Our Approach
We created an acoustic design for the new building that addressed the following key areas:
- indoor ambient noise;
- reverberation control; and
- sound insulation.
Our extensive experience in similar public buildings allowed us to develop strategies that would seamlessly integrate with the building’s modern design whilst meeting the high acoustics standards required by BREEAM.
Results
Our input has helped the project to achieve BREEAM Very Good and Corstorphine & Wright has also announced that the project has been shortlisted for Sustainable Project of the Year at the Insider South West Property Awards.
